“Best Managed companies achieve success because they have a clear vision and lead teams that are committed to growth and profitability,” explained Mike Runia, National Co-Leader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies Program and Ontario Managing Partner, Deloitte.

“We are the only hotel company in Canada that actively creates opportunities for, and invests along-side, franchisees. Franchisees become partners and are reassured by the fact that we have a mutually vested interest in the success of our hotels”

“In 1992, when we first acquired the Canadian Territorial Development rights for Super 8 there were only 5 Super 8’s in Canada. The Super 8 development is a major Canadian success story with Superior Lodging Corp transforming the brand into one of the largest and most recognizable brands in Canada with 136 locations operating as of September 2014. Our proven strategies, brand power and access to capital drive innovation and repeatable success. We currently have more hotels under construction or in the final planning stages than any other developer in Canada through our subsidiary company, MasterBUILT Hotels which is a joint venture with leading Canadian Home Builder Jayman MasterBUILT. We expect to continue to dominate the Canadian hotel development business and with 2 of our brands, plan to develop over 70 hotels in the next 10 years” says Samantha Charlesworth, Chief Financial Officer, Superior Lodging Corp.
“Superior Lodging Corp’s reputation and foundation for success are the core values that our talented team of people embody and live on a daily basis. Our Core Values – what we call Our Obsessions – guide us in everything we do and collectively formulate our “Company Culture” – that special element that can’t be duplicated or copied. We believe it is what makes us a great company to work for and work with. We are proud that we walk our talk when it comes to creating and nurturing a dynamic corporate culture. For us it is about one hotel, one employee, one experience at a time”, says Marc Staniloff, CEO & President, Superior Lodging Corp.

Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs that recognize Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applicants are evaluated by an independent judging panel on how they address various business challenges, including new technologies, globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core competencies, designing information systems, and hiring the right talent to facilitate growth.
“The team is excited with being named to Canada’s Best Managed Companies. It is a huge win and validation for our commitment to our work and to each other. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the recognition and are inspired to carry on doing what we love to do; it is a magic formula”, says Staniloff.

“Today’s market place is not just about financial performance; it is also about the investment in the people. Superior Lodging Corp invests in their team to build up a strong and stable company. Best Managed companies are home grown companies making smart investments to achieve above average returns,” says Peter Brown, National Co-Leader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies Program and Senior Practice Partner, Deloitte

2014 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award, along with the Gold Standard winners, Requalified and Platinum Club members will be honoured at the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies gala in Toronto on March 31, 2015. On the same date, the symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today’s business leaders.
Canada's Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. The awards are granted on four levels:

  1. Best Managed winner (one of the new winners selected each year)
  2. Requalified member (repeat winners retain the Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review)
  3. Gold Standard winner (After three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully reapplied for the designation. Companies may requalify for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review
  4. Platinum Club member (winners that maintain Best Managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years). Program sponsors are Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen's School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums. For further information, visit www.bestmanagedcompanies.ca.
